THE MAKER
JOSH BASS
Sculpture is expressed through many media. Through a multidisciplinary exploration of glass, fiber, and clay, I investigate the delicate architecture of marine biodiversity. I am drawn to the cohesion between materials. The crystalline fragility of kiln-formed glass mimicking the sun filtering through water, the skeletal rigidity of ceramic sculpture reflecting microscopic organisms, and the soft fluidity of fabric sculpture echoing the color and shapes of a coral reef. My work distills the ocean’s complexity into soothing forms and tranquil hues, which invite the viewer to explore each piece through a multisensory experience. These sculptures do not merely represent the sea; they embody its calming influence, enveloping the observer in a warm, colorful embrace that speaks to the restorative power of the natural world.
